I had a period of being single in the second half of 2013. It was after a bad break up, I was feeling super down, and then Tinder came along…
Being a ‘game for anything’ kind of person I naturally dived into this phenomenon head first!
For those of you who are wondering what i’m talking about, Tinder was the one of the first online ‘dating apps.’
Weeell shit, what a ride that was! I spent A LOT of time in bars... trying to chew proper with my mouth shut and repeating my best stories 'that time i almost sliced my neck with a chainsaw, oh, here's the scar!"
I knew full well none of this would probably lead anywhere, but hey, it felt good in the moment!
It was a notorious cycle of stimulation, without any nourishment.
Fast forward a couple of months, and I felt even emptier than before I started.
Something had to change...
Instead of dating, I started spending more time around my friends, and I also started opening up to my parents for the first time in my life (yes…at 32).
This began a process of self awareness for me. For the first time I became intensely aware of how important my friends and family were in my life. These relationships gave me nourishment, and nourishment lead to healing, and growth.
This was the main reason I turned down a head coaches role in Napier in 2016, to be at home.
There was a time in the past when scientists believed they’d cracked the code and could make baby formula that was better than breast milk. We now know that breast milk is literally tailored to the child it’s being fed to, along with vast, amazing biological responses they receive by being attached to the mother…
Video games allow you to be the hero...without the human experience of becoming the hero...
You can't smell the citrus on your fingers 10 minutes after taking a Vitamin C tablet...
I could go on.
Sometimes stimulation can be a means to an end, but it will never help us develop the way human nourishment can.
I attended a workshop with Rafe Kelley in Sydney a month ago. I encourage you to watch this short video giving his take on this concept https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mdBhhZPkDU4
P.S. If you think anyone else would find benefit in these feel free to forward on, or they can subscribe here...i'm on a mission.
